Summertime Vibes Are a Real Thing

Michelle is smiling on a wicker lounge chair writing in a journal by a kayak; blue banner reads Are you experiencing life — or managing it this summer?

There is something about summer that makes people want to get out and experience life.

The longer days. The sunshine. The festivals. The concerts. The farmers markets. The vacations. Even the smell of food cooking outside makes life feel a little lighter.

Summer reminds us that life is not just about checking things off a list. It is not just about work, emails, appointments, laundry, and keeping everyone else moving.

But here is the tricky part.

For many of us, business does not slow down just because summer shows up. People still need us. Work still matters. Responsibilities do not magically disappear because the sun is shining.

So how do we enjoy life when business is still busy?

How do we step away without feeling guilty?

How do we make space for memories while still showing up for the people who count on us?

I have been thinking about this since my recent trip to Maine.

There is something powerful about changing your scenery. Maine gave me a chance to step outside my normal routine and see life from a different view. The water, the cooler air, the slower pace, and the beauty around me gave my mind room to breathe.

Sometimes we do not realize how tightly we are holding everything until we finally step away.

And stepping away does not always mean taking a big vacation. It can be simple.

A morning walk before the phone starts ringing.

A trip to the farmers market instead of rushing through the store.

Coffee outside before the day gets loud.

A dinner on the patio.

A sunset drive.

A concert, a festival, or a weekend road trip.

The point is not to escape your life.

The point is to create moments inside your real life that remind you why you are working so hard in the first place.

When we pause, even for a little while, we come back with more perspective. We can see what actually matters. We can tell the difference between what is urgent and what is just noisy.

So maybe this summer, the question is not, “Can I afford to step away?”

Maybe the better question is, “Can I afford not to?”

Look at your calendar. Find the small openings. Choose something that helps you feel present again.

Take the walk. Visit the market. Listen to the music. Sit by the water. Watch the sunset.

Summer is inviting you to experience your life, not just manage it.

P.S. Sometimes the most important thing we can do is zoom out and ask whether the life we're building is actually aligned with the life we want to live.

That's one of the reasons I created the RETHINK Workshop. It's not just about business goals. It's about stepping back, gaining perspective, and creating a plan that supports a life you want to experience - not just the work you want to accomplish.
